- Frequently Asked Questions
Townsville is a slice of tropical paradise loved by the locals who call it home, with Magnetic Island and the Great Barrier Reef just a stone’s throw away. However, the residents of Townsville aren’t the only ones living in paradise!
Townsville and surrounding areas are also popular amongst pests, especially termites, which absolutely love the hot and humid weather of the region.
Jarid and Talitha Mulder don’t seem to mind it either. Born and raised in Townsville, this husband and wife team has been protecting North Queensland from termites for over 15 years with Termimesh, our stainless steel termite management system. In 2020, they added Termitrust Pest Control to their portfolio and became Termi Home & Commercial North Queensland.
North Queensland is home to over 230,000 people, so there are plenty of homes to keep protected from termites and pests.
You’ll typically find Jarid and his pest control technicians out installing Termimesh, conducting termite inspections and treating termites and pest infestations at properties across North and Northwest Queensland. Talitha, on the other hand, can be found managing everything back at the office, answering calls, scheduling jobs and ensuring the business is running smoothly.

Q. Tell me more about your specialty, termites. How can you help me?
A. As mentioned above, termites are a huge problem across Townsville and North Queensland in general. These troublesome insects cause massive damage to the timber found in buildings and will silently destroy it from the inside out given the chance.
Termites are responsible for the majority of callouts we receive, but thankfully, we know a thing or two about locating, treating, and preventing them.
Are termites really that bad? How often do I need a termite inspection in North Queensland?
Yes, termites in North Queensland are a real problem. North Queensland is above the Tropic of Capricorn and receives consistently hot temperatures, high humidity, and heavy rainfall, which combine to make the perfect conditions for termites to thrive.
The top end of Queensland is a high risk termite zone, so we recommend scheduling a termite inspection for your property once every three to six months. Yes, every three to six months! Termites are really that bad up here.

How bad? We once came across a new home that was about to have its timber roof trusses installed. Before they were even lifted into place, termites had already infested them! Yes, construction of the home had not even been completed. This is why having regular termite inspections are a must.
Termite inspections are pretty involved, so we have a comprehensive guide available for those who are curious. It covers the importance of having regular inspections, how you can prepare, and what a technician does during a termite inspection.
Treatments to keep termites out
We use a range of termite treatments to kill active termites and their colonies. Treatments also help to deter termite entry into buildings. Here are some of the methods we use:
- Termite monitoring and baiting stations to treat active termites and as a longer-term preventative measure.
- Spot treatments, which we directly apply or inject on active termites.
- Dusting, which is applied through a puffer directly to active termites and their colonies to eradicate them.
- Recharging chemical termite reticulation systems, which delivers a fresh supply of termiticide into the soil beneath a building.
Whether you’ve seen any common signs of termites around your property, discovered live termites or just haven’t had an inspection in a while, now is the best time to book a termite inspection or treatment with our team.

Q. Keeping termites out for good with Termimesh
Jarid, who originally comes from a background in carpentry, knows a thing or two about timber structures. He started with Termimesh as an installer back in 2014 and eventually went on to purchase the North Queensland Termimesh franchisee and later expanded into pest control in 2020.
He has a lot of experience with termites and believes wholeheartedly that Termimesh is the best pre-construction termite barrier on the market.
Having the opportunity to install the Termimesh System in local, state, and federal government projects, to NDIS accommodation and countless homes across North Queensland, really shows the confidence that locals have in Termimesh to provide the highest level of termite management while staying completely poison-free.
We are proud to say that one of the key features of Termimesh is that no chemical retreatments are required to keep a building protected for its lifetime.
Ultimately, Termimesh saves our clients a lot of money, time, and stress.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Are pest sprays safe for pets?
A. Yes, when pest sprays (insecticides) are sprayed around the outside of your home by a licenced pest technician, they are safe for pets.
Always let your technician know you have pets and follow their instructions carefully to keep your pet safe. This usually entails keeping them inside or away from the areas sprayed for 2 –3 hours or until the spray has completely dried.
Only licensed technicians are trained in the safe application of insecticides; therefore, we recommend avoiding DIY treatments, particularly if you have pets and young children in your home.
Q. Do I have to get a termite inspection every year to keep my Pledge Guarantee warranty valid?
A. You are covered by the Pledge Guarantee following your Termimesh installation for an initial term of ten years without the need for mandatory termite inspections*. However, should you choose to have an inspection during the initial period, you will extend your Pledge Guarantee for an additional year with each inspection. Therefore, the warranty can be extended indefinity for the life of the home.
*Pledge Guarantee terms & conditions apply.
Q. Can I use another pest control business to conduct a termite inspection to extend my Termimesh Pledge Guarantee warranty?
A. To extend your Pledge Guarantee warranty by another year, you must have a termite inspection conducted by a pest control technician from Termitrust Pest Control.
