Why are termite barriers important?
- Termites (white ants) are active in all mainland areas of Australia
- 34,000 homes each year are attacked by termites
- The average damage cost is approximately $10,000.00
- Termite damage is not covered by home or contents insurance
- Steel roof homes are not termite-proof! Other areas of the home are still vulnerable to termite attack. For example, timber floors, kitchen and bathroom cabinets and even electrical wiring
All homes must have a termite management system
Under Australian building regulations, your new home must be fitted with a termite management system or be built with termite-resistant structural materials.
As the homeowner, you can choose the type of termite protection installed in your new home. The only opportunity you have to make this choice is before the commencement of construction.
Termitrust Pest Control, part of the Termi Home & Commercial network, has been providing termite barriers for new homes and commercial buildings for more than two decades.
Our termite barrier options include:
The Termimesh System
The original, non-poisonous physical termite barrier that set new standards for termite management throughout Australia and the world. The Termimesh System has been installed in over 700,000 Australian homes and in countless commercial projects worldwide since our first installations in 1990.
Smartfilm termite blanket
Smartfilm brand chemical termite blankets are exclusively distributed and installed by our Termi Home & Commercial network. This type of termite barrier uses chemical impregnated blankets to repel termites and discourage them from entering through concealed entry points.
Chemical reticulation soil treatment systems
Chemical reticulation systems for termite management are much like reticulation systems used for watering gardens. These termite barriers are a piping system laid underground around the building and periodically deliver liquid termiticide into the soil.
This type of termite management system is easily recharged with termiticide once the effectiveness of the previous application wears off.
Hand sprayed termite chemical soil treatments
Hand sprayed termite chemical soil treatments are mainly now only used in Western Australia. This method involves applying a termiticide to the soil under the slab, the garage floor and around the outside walls.
Once applied, the treated soil will act as a deterrent to termites for approximately five years before the property requires a “drill and inject” treatment to apply fresh termidicide to the perimeter of the building.
