Meet Daniel Jeffries, the new franchisee and manager of Termimesh Mackay. We caught up with Daniel to learn more about his journey to becoming our newest franchise owner and discovered what excites him most about joining the Termimesh network.

Tasmania to tropical Queensland

Born and raised in Hobart, Tasmania, Daniel was surrounded by machinery and motors early in life, with his family operating an earthmoving business, jet boating venture and stock car racing team.

After finishing college, Daniel completed apprenticeships in horticulture, print finishing, fitting and turning, along with a traineeship in power station operations. While chasing careers, he worked as a builder’s offsider and even built his own house, picking up valuable construction skills along the way.

In his late thirties, Daniel relocated to Queensland and began working in the mining industry as a diesel fitter, maintaining and repairing everything from draglines, shovels and diggers to dump trucks, dozers and wash plants. Later, he joined a civil contracting company, working as a fitter, operator, supervisor and maintenance manager. During this time, Daniel independently completed a land subdivision over two years.

Outside of work

Outside of work, Daniel enjoys the lifestyle of living in sunny Queensland. Now with more flexibility, he gets to enjoy even more time riding dirt bikes with his sons, getting involved with footy and tackling landscaping and construction projects.

Daniel is a lifelong Adelaide Crows supporter. When we asked about his loyalty to the club, he said, “I have gone for them since I was in grade 8”. Despite now living deep in Queensland territory, Daniel remarked, “my loyalty to the club has never been tested”.

A new direction with Termimesh Mackay

After several years in demanding, fast-paced industries, Daniel longed for a career change. An opportunity that combined his professional skills and over three decades of experience with a lifestyle that offered greater balance.

When the opportunity to become a Termimesh franchisee arose, it immediately caught his attention. A position that incorporated his practical skills and mindset, while enabling more time for personal commitments.

Reflecting later on the decision to join the Termimesh network, Daniel said, “The reputation and reliability of the Termimesh brand really stood out to me. It’s a name builders trust and I wanted to be part of that.”

Now managing Mackay operations, Daniel is focused on supporting existing Termimesh System clients, building new relationships and helping locals better understand the risks of termites. We look forward to working with him to continue providing our industry-leading termite barrier mesh to clients across the Mackay region in Queensland.

Looking ahead as the new franchisee

For Daniel, the most exciting part of leading Termimesh Mackay is the opportunity to grow the franchise’s service offerings while continuing to expand his expertise in pest management. He sees strong potential for growth across Mackay and surrounds, with new residential developments and regional infrastructure driving demand for reliable termite protection.

“Expansion is what excites me most”, Daniel says. “There’s so much opportunity in and around Mackay and I’m looking forward to building on the strong foundation that’s already here.”

Guided by experience and driven by opportunity, Daniel’s leadership signals an exciting new era for Termimesh Mackay and the clients it serves across Mackay, Whitsunday and Central Highlands areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What time of year are termites most active in Mackay?

A. Termites are most active in Mackay and surrounding regions during tropical Queensland’s wet season (roughly November to April). Warmer temperatures, higher humidity and increased rainfall during this period speed up the metabolism of termites, making them more active.

Q. How quickly can termites destroy a house in Australia?

A. How long it takes for termites to destroy a home depends on several factors, including the size of the termite colony, the termite species and the construction type of the home. In some cases, major structural damage can occur in just a few months if termites go unnoticed.

Above the Tropic of Capricorn, homes are generally at greater risk of termite damage and can often experience it much faster than other places in Australia.

Q. What is the best protection against termites?

A. The best protection against termites starts during construction with a termite management system. A physical or chemical termite barrier blocks termites from entering through concealed entry points, helping to prevent damage before it begins.

For established homes, annual termite inspections are the best protection against termites. They should be scheduled regularly to ensure termites haven’t entered without you knowing.

Q. How long does the Termimesh System last?

A. When maintained correctly, the Termimesh System provides poison-free protection against termites for the entire practical life of a building. Made from marine grade stainless steel, the system doesn’t corrode or lose its effectiveness over time, unlike chemical termite barrier solutions.

Q. Do termite barriers really work?

A. Yes. Both physical and chemical termite barriers work and are highly effective when designed and installed to meet National Construction Code requirements and Australian Standards. Regular inspections of your termite barrier will help ensure that it continues to work as intended
